(Greenwood, S.C., November 30, 2017) On November 29, 2017, Jeffrey Thomas, M.D., performed a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure using the LINX Reflux Management System for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It was the first surgery of its kind in the Upstate of South Carolina.

The LINX device is a ring comprised of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores. During the procedure it is fitted around the lower esophageal sphincter to control the flow of reflux associated with GERD. The device prevents acidic stomach content from moving up into the esophagus, yet still allows for regular bodily function and food consumption.

“This procedure has revolutionized the treatment of patients with GERD,” said Dr. Thomas. “Post-op downtime is minimal, and most patients will return to their regular activities in a relatively short time. We are excited and honored to be the first to offer this treatment to the Lakelands community.”
