Self Regional Announces Plans for New Savannah Lakes Medical Center
GREENWOOD—Self Regional Healthcare has announced plans to construct a new 7,400 square foot medical center next door to the present Savannah Lakes Medical Center.
M. John Heydel, President and CEO of Self Regional, met with Savannah Lakes Village residents on Jan. 24 and shared the hospital’s plans for the center, which he said will be friendly to both patients and staff.
The medical center will provide modernized spaces, upgraded technology and enhanced convenience. More than three times the size of the exiting facility, the new center will be able to accommodate on-site x-rays, laboratory services and additional space for other services to be identified later.
Nine primary care examination rooms will be featured in the new building, according to Heydel. This will allow Self Regional to increase the capacity of primary care delivered at the center.
There will also be six different examination rooms designed for specialist care, and several specialty practices have already expressed interest in seeing patients at the new center.
Heydel said site work will begin in February, with construction beginning shortly thereafter. Weather permitting, it is anticipated that the new medical center should be open to serve patients at some point in the Spring of 2009. Dr. Todd Gonzales, Nurse Practitioner Claire Pursley-Watson and the rest of the Savannah Lakes Medical Center staff will continue to serve patients in the exiting location until construction is complete, he added.
Located in Greenwood, Self Regional Healthcare is a 421-bed regional referral center serving a population base of more than 250,000 in a seven-county region. The medical center has earned numerous honors at the state and national level for excellence in health care in recent months. Self Regional has owned Savannah Lakes Medical Center since 2001.
