Pharmacy Staff Sponsors Room in Memory of Late Co-Worker

GREENWOOD—A room atop Self Regional Healthcare’s new patient tower now bears the name of a beloved hospital pharmacist.
Employees in the Pharmacy Department at Self Regional Healthcare recently made a $10,000 donation to the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation in memory of Carol Bateman, a friend and co-worker who passed away two years ago after a career that spanned more than 16 years at the local hospital.
The donation to the Foundation is recognized with a plaque outside Room 809 in the patient tower, which Bateman toured during its grand opening two months prior to her death.
“Carol Bateman was one of the most compassionate people I have ever known,” noted Bob Wingard, a Self Regional pharmacist who led the effort for the room dedication. “She gave freely of herself to her professional, her community and to those in need.”
“Carol has a highly respected member of the Self Regional staff and I am pleased her co-workers are sustaining her memory with the Carol Bateman Room.”
Bateman was also highly respected across the state, having been selected South Carolina’s Pharmacist of the Year twice—once by the S.C. Society of Hospital Pharmacists and later by the S.C. Pharmacy Association. She also served as President of the South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association and earned the Bowl of Hygeia Award, presented to a South Carolina pharmacist annually for community service.
The room designation was made possible by contributions from hospital employees Gayle Abernathy, Nina Adams, Terri Arthur, Jane Carnes, Kathy Darragh, Shea Deal, Roslyn Doss, Jennifer Gary, Margaret Hines, Joy McWhorter, Jimmy Morgan, Kristina Nelson, Peggy Patrick, Bill Rogers, Eric Smith, Barbara Sprouse and Bob Wingard.
