(Greenwood, S.C., June 17, 2013) – Self Regional Healthcare is adding a new patient safety system to provide additional protection for women, babies and pediatric patients at Self Regional Medical Center.

Beginning June 18, visitors to the Josephine B. Abney Women’s Center, Childbirth Center and the Pediatric Unit, will be greeted by the Mom + Baby Secure Access system.

“Secure Access allows us to make sure that our new moms, babies, pediatric and women’s surgery patients will be able to get the rest they need, provide another blanket of security for some of our smallest patients, and increase privacy for all patients,” said Sharon Walb, RN, BSN, RNC-OB, director of Women’s and Children’s Services for Self Regional.

The system uses a video camera so visitors may identify themselves and the patient they are planning to visit. Secure Access cameras are stationed at multiple entrance points to the patient units; visitors must check in at the system each time they leave the unit and return.

“We are committed to enhancing patient safety, and evaluated a number of ways to create a better experience for our families and children who are patients,” said Ms. Walb. “Secure Access will help create a more soothing environment for healing and comfort, and add to current safety systems already in place to protect our patients.”
