The agreement, which is projected to be complete by July 1 of this year, includes all Piedmont Health Group family medicine and pediatric practices. Neurologists Dr. Wayne Sida, Dr. Bret Warner, and Dr. Anthony Holt will remain in private practice as Piedmont Neurology, LLC. They will continue to provide inpatient neurology consultation services and call coverage at Self Regional, as well as serving as medical directors of Self Regional’s accredited stroke program and neurodiagnostics laboratory. Piedmont Neurology will relocate its outpatient practice to 917 Bypass 225 South in Greenwood. All other Piedmont Health Group practices and services will become part of Self Regional Healthcare as of July 1.

Piedmont Health Group-owned real estate, including the Tower Pointe facility and other family practice offices, will be leased to Self Regional Healthcare. No practice closings or general layoffs are expected, and patients will continue to receive the high quality care they have always received from their Piedmont Health Group providers. Appointments, office hours, and day-to-day operations will continue uninterrupted during the transition, which will occur over the next 12 months.

Jim Pfeiffer, President and CEO of Self Regional Healthcare, said, “Hospitals, outpatient facilities and physicians must join together to provide the best healthcare experience for their patients. The new economic realities of healthcare pose significant challenges to providers, but also significant opportunities to improve the quality, experience, and value for patients. This historic joining of Self Regional and Piedmont Health Group will help us achieve those improvements.”

Piedmont Health Group Chairman, Dr. Dennis Murphy said, “This agreement is the result of a lengthy, multi-year, collaborative process, and has strong support within both organizations. It will help us provide healthcare in the Lakelands closer to the patient-centered model our patients need.”
