Diabetes Education

Self Regional Healthcare’s Diabetes Education Center is open from 8:30 a.m.­–5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is located at 1226 Spring street, Greenwood, SC.

  Services offered include:
  • Designing self-management goals
  • Disease management education
  • Individualizing meal plans and medications
  • Recommendations on exercise and activity
  • Recognizing signs and symptoms of  hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, and taking appropriate action.

Classes and Meetings
A free diabetes education class takes place at 10 a.m. the second Thursday of every month. Classes are held at the Optimum Life Center, 115 Academy Avenue, across from the Emergency Care Center.

Camp and Retreat
The Diabetes Education Center offers a day camp for a week each summer at Hickory Knob State Park near McCormick, S.C. Campers ages 6-19 get a chance to meet and interact with other children who have diabetes and learn about disease management. Scholarships are available for those who qualify. A teen retreat for youths ages 13-19 takes place the weekend before the day camp. Weekend teen retreat is June 19 – 21 and Day Camp is June 22-26th.

Insurance coverage
Most insurance covers portions of diabetes education. Medicare covers 80 percent of charges after deductible. To talk with someone about insurance coverage, or for financial questions, call (864) 725-7800.
