Upper endoscopy (EGD)
This allows the doctor to look into the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small bowel with a flexible tube. A camera and a light placed inside the body gives the doctor direct vision of the upper GI tract. Biopsies may be taken, as well as treatment of bleeding sites.

Colonoscopy
A flexible, lighted tube is placed inside the body to view the colon (large intestines). This checks for diseases such as cancer, polyps, colitis and crohns and gives the doctor an option to directly treat what they find.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Similar to the EGD. doctors perform ERCP to remove gallstones in the bile duct, insert stents for drainage and do biopsies. This procedure is performed with the assistance of mobile radiography. X-rays can help the doctor further diagnose and treat diseases of the biliary system.

Esophageal motility study
This involves inserting a catheter through the nose into the esophagus to measure pressures in the esophagus and the patients’ ability to swallow.

24-hour Ph study
A small catheter is inserted through the nose into the esophagus to check acid levels and reflux of acid into the esophagus for a 24-hour time period. A patient diary is kept while wearing the monitor for the doctor to identify any correlation with activities and acid reflux.

Bronchoscopy
A flexible, lighted tube is inserted through the nose into the lungs to biopsy, check for tumors and collect samples of fluids from the lungs to diagnose and treat breathing problems.
