Symetra Tour Golf Clinic for Hundreds of Local Eighth Grade Students

(Greenwood, SC – April 29, 2014.) The Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic is creating yet another “first” for the Symetra Tour—a golf clinic for hundreds of local eighth grade girls and boys. About 250 local students will participate in a hands-on golf instruction with 14 Symetra Tour professional golfers and PGA-certified teaching professionals. (Golf clinics for youth have been offered at Symetra Tour events, but only to a much smaller group of about 40 kids.)

Organizers of the professional golf tour event, which is scheduled for May 5-11 at the Links at Stoney Point, have worked with the superintendents at Greenwood School Districts 50, 51 and 52 to recognize achievement and identify eighth graders to participate in the clinic.

Noon – 2 p.m. – Students from Greenwood (D50)

For the students, the day will consist of a golf overview with the Kwik Golf Game teaching tool (donated by tournament organizers Jim and Denise Medford), and trying their hand at driving, chipping and putting with coaching and instruction from professional golfers.

The Women’s Leadership Council from the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Stoney Point Ladies Golf Association are volunteering to help manage the event.

“This represents a way for us to develop the next generation of young golfers by exposing more young people to the game,” said Jean Abbene, Stoney Point Ladies Golf Association President. “Having some of the ladies who play on the Symetra Tour work with our local students is inspiring for the golfers, and for the girls and boys participating.
