Self Regional Healthcare’s Sports Medicine Center Donates $5,450 to Local High Schools

(Greenwood, S.C., September 9, 2015) – Self Regional Healthcare’s Sports Medicine Center recently presented Emerald High School and Greenwood High School with donations totaling $5,450 after hosting their annual sports physical clinic for District 50 middle and high school students on May 4 and 5. Physicians and staff of the Sports Medicine Center traveled to both Greenwood and Emerald High School and provided 277 physicals over the two-day period.

“This program is beneficial to the community because it provides necessary sports physicals to student athletes at a reduced cost,” Dr. David Sealy, director of the Self Regional Healthcare Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and the Sports Medicine Center, said. “Additionally, these physicals are provided by sports trained doctors on site at the schools and the proceeds support the athletic departments – making it not only easy and affordable to ensure our local student athletes are safe, but also allowing us to give back to the schools that we serve.”

Donation totals were based on the number of participating student athletes from each school. This year, Emerald High School, along with Westside Middle School, had 82 student athletes receive a physical. Greenwood High School, along with Brewer Middle School and Northside Middle School, had 195 students participate.

The donations went to each school’s Booster Club and the funds will be used to support school athletics.
