Self Regional Healthcare, in conjunction and with the support of Edgefield County Hospital, announced today that two Edgefield physicians, Dr. George Rainsford and Dr. Tami Massey, will be joining Self Medical Group effective October 1, 2016 and will continue to practice family medicine in Edgefield.

Dr. Rainsford has been practicing at Edgefield Medical Clinic since 1976. He grew up in Edgefield, attended Strom Thurmond High School, earned his B.S. at the University of South Carolina and earned his medical degree, as well as completing his family practice residency, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

“I am passionate about family medicine and providing the best care available to the Edgefield community,” said Dr. Rainsford. “This relationship with Self Regional will allow my partner and me to focus on providing the best care to our patients, and give our practice the resources necessary to manage the rapidly changing healthcare industry. Also, because Edgefield County Hospital and Self Regional have such a strong collaborative relationship, I’m thrilled that my patients will reap the benefits of that strong partnership and have even more convenient access to specialty services,” he said.

Dr. Massey did her undergraduate work at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and practiced several years as an ICU nurse before going on to medical school at Medical College of Georgia. She did a family practice residency at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. Dr. Massey is also an advanced life support provider. “I know from my years at the Family Residency Program at Self Regional that this is a quality organization that is committed to delivering the finest care available. I’m happy to be affiliated with a group whose mission aligns with mine,” said Dr. Massey.

President and CEO of Self Regional Healthcare Jim Pfeiffer stated, “Our motto at Self Regional is HEALTHCARE-CONNECTED, and this is yet another example of providers working collaboratively to meet the significant challenges of practicing medicine in the 21st century, all while keeping the patient at the center of our attention. We welcome Dr. Massey and Dr. Rainsford to our team.”

Edgefield County Hospital CEO, Carlos Milanes, echoed the advantages for the community, stating that “the collaborative relationship model between our hospitals ensures and expands access to the highest level of care now and into the future and supports the hospitals ongoing mission to provide quality and appropriate care to all people.”
