Additional Information:

Holiday lights will be twinkling at Self Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 7th during the annual Lights for Love tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

The event will feature holiday entertainment, light refreshments and the Lights for Love Star is being lit this year in memory of Dr. Terry Marshall, former neonatologist and director of neonatology at Self Regional Healthcare.

“The star is in honor of Dr. Marshall, but the focus is on the babies that he treated throughout his career and the legacy of the Self Regional NICU” Jane Marshall, 2017 Lights for Love donor and Dr. Marshall’s widow, said. “By honoring his memory, we will be honoring all the NICU graduates and the legacy of care of the NICU.”

In Dr. Marshall’s 32 year career at Self Regional, he cared for more than 7,000 babies who were in the neonatal intensive care unit and thousands more healthy babies. He also was the catalyst behind establishing a Level III NICU at Self Regional, the only Level III NICU in the Lakelands region, which allows our organization to take care of some of the smallest and sickest babies. He also was instrumental in the construction of the NICU in the early 1990s and spearheaded the renovations that were completed in the spring of 2016.

Lights for Love is an annual event that raises funds for the Self Regional Healthcare Auxiliary. For a gift of $5 or more, a symbolic light will brighten the tree outside of Self Regional Medical Center and an acknowledgement card will be sent in your name. This event has raised more than $2.1 million since its inception and this year’s funds will benefit the Self Regional Healthcare neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), while honoring or remembering those who have been significant in our lives. The goal for the 2017 event is $22,000, with levels of giving ranging from $5 for an individual honoree to $500.

To make a Lights for Love donation, contact Volunteer Services at (864) 725-4878 or (864) 725-4177. Donations are accepted through New Year’s Day. All gifts are tax-deductible.
