Saluda county has the 4th highest COVID-19 infection rate in the state of South Carolina. In order to reach the large, underserved population there, Self Regional Healthcare worked with SCDHEC and Saluda County officials to conduct a free screening event Thursday, May 14th, from 9am – 5pm, at Saluda Primary School.

The SRH Health Express bus was there, along with tents and SRH team members to bring Saluda residents access to testing that they have not had previously. SCDHEC had community health workers there for translation, and the National Guard assisted with traffic flow, while numerous Self Regional team members from various departments (Lab, IT, Registration, Nursing and our primary care offices in Saluda) also attended. There were three testing lines. Two were drive-through sites, similar to what we have set up at the Self Regional medical center. The other line was a walk-up testing tent area. 375 of Saluda residents were tested.

We send a hardy thank you to all the heroes who made this important outreach to the residents of Saluda County possible today. It will likely result in a number of COVID-positive residents getting into quarantine quicker and slowing the spread in that community.
