Remembering Terry Marshall, M.D.

(Greenwood, S.C., July 20, 2016) – The medical and Lakelands communities mourn the loss of Terry Marshall, M.D. Dr. Marshall was a neonatologist and director of neonatology at Self Regional Healthcare.

Our organization has lost a great physician and man who devoted his life to taking care of our tiniest patients. In his 32 years here at Self Regional, he cared for more than 7,000 babies who were in the neonatal intensive care unit and thousands more healthy babies.

Dr. Marshall received his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, Tenn. He completed his residency in pediatrics at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., and a fellowship in neonatology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Va.

Dr. Marshall was the catalyst behind establishing a Level III NICU at Self Regional, the only Level III NICU in the Lakelands region, which allows our organization to take care of some of the smallest and sickest babies. He also was instrumental in the construction of the NICU in the early 1990s and spearheaded the renovations that were completed in March of this year.

In addition to his leadership on the medical staff, Dr. Marshall was a steadfast advocate of Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. He was a staunch supporter of obstetrics and neonatology services and served as a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees since 2012.

“Dr. Marshall was an excellent physician whose commitment to the infants in his care was unsurpassed,” Jim Pfeiffer, CEO and president of Self Regional Healthcare, said. “He was passionate about his career, Self Regional and all the patients he treated. He dedicated his life to taking care of others and has had an incredible impact on countless families in our community. He will be dearly missed.”
